Our Why

We felt there were very few “true” specialists in the college funding arena.  We also noticed a ton of misinformation, in the industry and media, leading families to spend thousands more for college than necessary.  So, we decided to focus our practice in this area to help make paying for college more efficient and affordable.

Our Story

Bluerock College Planning Services was built out of experience.

Austin's college journey was met with heartache and headache. Austin went to Lake Erie College for a baseball scholarship and transferred to Kent State University to finish his degree. Upon transferring, most of the credits from private to public school did not transfer leading to wasted time and money. Navigating applying for college and all the forms required was an ordeal he vowed to help others overcome. With little guidance given on how to fill out the FAFSA and how to do it correctly, money was left on the table and possible scholarships and grants lost. All of these headaches created stress, and at times, financial hardship for him. This prompted Austin to focus on making sure his family and friends never felt the same frustration and confusion he did while planning for college.

As a father of three children, uncle to two nieces and two nephews, college costs have been on Michael's mind ever since he made the first contribution to his oldest child’s college fund. So, after 16 years in the financial services industry, helping college-bound families became one of Michael's primary focuses.  As a Financial Advisor, Michael has a unique perspective and has incorporated his financial planning background with college planning, to help families put a plan in place, increase affordability, and balance education costs with other financial goals.

We saw a need for assistance in counselling families with future college kids to help them save time, money and frustration. We seek to help future college students graduate on time, while not financially impacting their future with high student loan debt.

It is imperative that every family know the ins and outs of the college planning process and we hope to work with all of you!
